The term jerk bait,  is used to define the type of retrieve necessary to get the right action out of the lure in order to get a musky to strike. While reeling the lure towards the boat, the fisherman should make quick yanks with his fishing rod in order to get proper action on the fishing lure. This will make the fishing lure dart and dash in certain directions, mimicking a scared bait fish in the water.
